Mike Burns

Captain Mike Burns was the eldest of four brothers who served the Syracuse Police Department. He died of a heart attack at age 46 while serving in the U.S. Coast Guard where he held the rank of Commander. Mike joined the Department in 1953 and retired in 1973. He had been called to active duty from his USCG Reserves Unit.

Mike was predeceased by his mother, Mary McGinnigle Burns. He was survived by his wife, Dolores who joined him in death 3 years later, also a daughter Helen Burns Davis and a granddaughter Dionne. Also surviving were his father , Henry, d. 1980, his 3 bothers, Deputy Chief John Burns, d. 1999, Sergeants James (Jimmy) Burns, Henry, Jr. (Harry) Burns, and a sister, Margaret Cilurzo, d. 2017.

Michael attended Lafayette College in Easton Pa where he met his wife. They are buried in the Easton Cemetery.
