Gene Haumann

Gene HaumannEugene F. Haumann, 75, of Pulaski passed away unexpectedly on Monday at Oswego Hospital. Born in Syracuse, he was the son of the late Frederick and Rose Blume Haumann. Gene was a graduate of Onondaga Valley Academy and served in the US Army. Gene retired from the Syracuse Police Department in 1986 following 25 years of service as a Lieutenant.

Gene spent the next 10 years of his time managing stadium control at the Carrier Dome, where he was affectionately known as "The Dome Guy." Gene enjoyed his family and was deeply admired by all that knew him. He was noted for his sense of humor, his family stories and especially his "puns." He was a dedicated member and past president of the Valley Men's Club, the Fraternal Order of Police and the Syracuse Police Retirees Association, and a volunteer for Oswego County Opportunities. Gene also was "Santa Claus" to thousands of children and adults.

Gene is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, the former Joyce Wheet; sons, Craig of Tampa, FL and Robert Haumann of "The Valley"; a brother, Robert A. (Pamela) Haumann of Marcellus; his grandchildren include Joseph, Elizabeth, Ashley, Robert and Samantha Haumann and Christine Harmes; great grandchildren include Jacob, Johnny, Dibble and Joey Haumann. He was also a beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews and a loyal friend to many.

Calling hours will be from 3 to 6 p.m. on Friday with services to follow immediately at 6 p.m. at Ballweg & Lunsford Funeral Home, Inc., 4612 S. Salina Street, Syracuse. Burial will be private.
