Vic McNett

Victor G. McNett 98, passed away Friday June 30, 2017 in Yarmouth. Victor was born January 14, 1919 in Syracuse NY to Claude E. & Ethel (Pond) McNett. He grew up in Syracuse graduating from High School in 1937. On September 25, 1940 Victor enlisted in the United States Army, serving alongside his brother Duane in The Army Infantry 27th Division. Together they served for 5 years. During WW II, the brothers served in the Pacific Theater stationed in Pearl Harbor immediately following the bombing, later serving in Saipan, Okinawa and other Pacific islands.
On October 25, 1941 Victor met Virginia Estelle Freeman in Atlanta, GA. The couple were married on December 30, 1945 in Jonesboro, GA and remained happily together for 43 years

After WW II, Victor was honorably discharged from the Army, and joined the Syracuse Police Department. He served 27 years with the Department most of the time as Director of the Crime Laboratory. He received many awards for his distinguished service. He retired from the Department in 1973 and remained in Syracuse several years subsequently moving to Topsham, ME in 1999

Old VicVictor lived a full and active life, biking, hiking, canoeing, traveling and putting. He had many proud moments throughout his life and was especially pleased to have written and published his memoir "Victor G. McNett, A Life Of Service To Country, City and Family". Blessed with a life well lived he showed compassion, kindness, generosity and caring to all he met along his journey

Victor was predeceased by his best friend and wife of 43 years, Virginia "Ginny" McNett and a daughter Susan (McNett) Johnson. He is survived by three children, Linda (McNett) Hornbeck of Bowdoinham, ME, Eric McNett of Topsham, ME, and Douglas McNett of Orlando, FL, six grandchildren, two great grandsons, his brother Duane and his sister Phyllis as well as many treasured nieces, nephews and friends

graveside service will be held Monday July 10, 2017, at the Oakwood Cemetery in Syracuse, NY. Arrangements are under the direction and are of Brackett Funeral Home, Brunswick, ME
