October 30, 2015

David Fix, 70, passed away peacefully at home in Boston on Friday. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Mimi Shotland Fix and their daughter, Gemmae Fix of Arlington, Mass. He is survived by a son from a previous marriage, David, of Fulton NY, and four grandchildren.

David was born in Belfast, Maine. The son of an Army officer, he grew up living on bases all over the world. He moved to Syracuse in 1963 and graduated from Syracuse Central High School, class of 1964.

After high school he worked at Hoffman Industries before joining the Syracuse Police Department in 1971 where he was the recipient of numerous awards. He earned his nickname "The Net" while working as an Investigator in the Criminal Investigations Division. He was later promoted to sergeant and served as a supervisor in the Patrol and Traffic Divisions. Dave not only served his community professionally, he volunteered as an assistant scoutmaster for Troop 46 out of St. Anthony's.

David took his 20 year pension from the Police Department in 1991. He worked as a private investigator in Tennessee and for the State of Maryland Court System. He ultimately moved to Kingston in Ulster County where he lived for several years until just before his death. His last position was Sr. Investigator, Humane Law, for the Ulster SPCA. He also had a passion for training thoroughbred German Shepherds. His last trainee-pet, a bitch he name "Feisty", is now serving with a K-9 police unit in Mass.

Per his wishes, final services and cremation were private, and there were no published obituaries. His ashes were scattered at a place he loved in the Hudson Valley.
