Jerry Mulherin

September 7, 2017

John Gerald Mulherin passed away September 7, 2017 at Francis House after a brief illness.

He was born February 25, 1954 to Marge and Jack Mulherin in Syracuse ...Eastwood specifically. After attending Blessed Sacrament Grammar School he graduated from Bishop Ludden High.

Jerry spent his entire professional career in law enforcement. For 30 years he was a proud member of the Town of Geddes and, later, the City of Syracuse Police Departments. During his time with the SPD, in addition to numerous commendations, Jerry was honored with the Departments highest award, the Hendricks Medal in 2003, for heroism shown on duty. In addition he was awarded both the District Attorneys Achievement Award in 2011 and the Syracuse Police Department's Distinguished Service Medal in 2010, two awards which confirm exemplary service.

It was obvious to Jerry's family how much he loved not only the work he did but those he did it with. Throughout his career in law enforcement, Jerry forged many friendships which lasted until his death. Jerry cherished each and every one of them.

Jerry is survived by his sisters, Francie (Dave) Desimone and Margie Geiger in addition to his younger brother Richard (Kate Flannery) Mulherin.

He was predeceased by both his parents, Marge and Jack, his sister Mary, and his brothers Joe and David.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, September 11th from 3-6 pm at St. Patrick's Church, 216 N. Lowell Ave, Syracuse, NY. A funeral Mass will be celebrated the following morning at 10:00 am also at St. Patrick's.

The family requests you personally take a moment to thank a law enforcement member for his or her service to the community. These dedicated men and women, who unselfishly risk their lives on a daily basis to keep all of us safe, often in very difficult circumstances, are deserving of our gratitude and recognition.

We would like to recognize the compassionate work performed by those at Francis House, we are extremely grateful for their support. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to them. Francis House 108 Michaels Ave, Syracuse, NY.
