Tim Mumford

January 14, 2017

Timothy D. Mumford, Sr., 69, of Camillus passed away at home on Saturday, January 14, 2017. Born in Syracuse, to the late Donald and Helen Dibble Mumford, he graduated from Corcoran High School, then went to Cortland State and received a degree in Business and finally got his Masters in Social Work from Syracuse University. He was a Corporal in the US Marines serving during Viet Nam, then went on to join the Syracuse Police Department in 1970, and rising through the ranks of Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain and finally retiring in 1992 at 1st Deputy Chief. After the police department he went on to be a professor of Criminal Justice at Cayuga Community College.

Tim is survived by his son Tim (Mary Beth) of Syracuse, daughter Elizabeth (Justin) Green of Cottageville, SC, and sister Donna Wise. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren Gavin and Ella Mumford and Emily and Kloe Green as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he is also predeceased by his granddaughter Madeline Mumford and brother Martin Mumford.

As per Tim's request there will be no calling hours or service. The family does wish those who knew him to share memories and stories with each other.

Memorial donations in Tim's memory may be to Hope for Bereaved or the Syracuse Police Benevolent Association.

I can't recall the reasons, other than Tim being a great cop, but Chief Sardino promoted Tim to Sgt. all by himself in the Chief's Office rather than the usual big promotion ceremony in the auditorium.
