Bill Reidy

William J. "Bill" Reidy, 96, of Syracuse, passed away on Thursday at Loretto. Born in Watertown, he was a son of the late John and Theresa (Driscoll) Reidy. After serving in the US Army during WWII from 1942 to 1946, Bill devoted 34 years to the Syracuse Police Department before retiring as Lieutenant. 

He was a member of the Syracuse PBA and Retirees Association, American Legion Valley Post 1468, and Valley Men's Club. Bill was also the past president of the NYS Juvenile Officers Association and vice president of the City County Youth Advisory Board. When time permitted, Bill volunteered at Loretto for over 20 years. He was also a faithful communicant of St. James Church for 64 years, where he served as a Eucharistic Minister.

Bill is survived by his loving wife, the former Harriet Luther; sons, William J. Jr. (Cheryl) of Rockville, MD, John F. (Martha) of Syracuse, and Thomas P. (Delia) of Syracuse; 12 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his brothers, James and Michael.

Calling hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, September 11, 2017, at Ballweg & Lunsford Funeral Home, 4612 S. Salina Street, Syracuse, NY 13205. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, September 12, 2017, at St. James Church, 4845 S. Salina Street, Syracuse, NY 13205. Burial with military honors will be in Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Syracuse.
