Kenneth H. Yackel, 86, of Eastwood, died unexpectedly at his home on Saturday. Mr. Yackel was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served aboard the USS Taluga in the South Pacific. He had retired from the Syracuse Police Department as a motorcycle patrolman in 1977 after 20 years of service. He also did maintenance for Nastri Real Estate and the Eastwood Post Office. Mr. Yackel was a member of the American Legion Pulaski Post. He was pre-deceased by his wife, Beverly who died, in 2003. He is survived by his daughter, Lorraine (Don) Kosiba of Bridgeport; two sons; four brothers, Robert of Warners, Harold of Syracuse, Jack of Fremont, Cliff of Baldwinsville; several grandchildren, including Stephanie Piron and Valerie Kosiba who were wonderful to their grandfather in his final years. He is also survived by several great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. His family would like to thank his care givers, Cathy Zoll and Kathy Lawson, for all of their care and kindness.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 10 a.m. at the Welter-Price Funeral Home with burial to follow in Woodlawn Cemetery.
Calling hours are Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home, 3111 James Street.
