Hank Zajac

Henry Joseph Zajac, 91, of Liverpool passed away peacefully on Thursday. Born in Syracuse he was a graduate of Vocational High School and a WWII Navy Veteran serving in the South Pacific. Hank retired from the Syracuse Police Department after 37 years. He was an avid bowler and member of the All Nationals Baseball Team. Hank was a member of numerous organizations including: The Holy Name Society, Knights of Columbus, Polish Legion of American Veterans, West End Survivors and Sacred Heart Seniors.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Anne; his two sons, Richard (Bonnie) and Larry (Marge); four grandchildren; and two great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Jean (Lyle) Stone; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 9 a.m. Wednesday at Giminski-Wysocki Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at The Basilica of the Sacred Heart at 9:30 a.m. Friends may call 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home at 1320 W. Genesee Street, Syracuse. Burial: Sacred Heart Cemetery Geddes.

 

I wonder if there are any of the WWII vets left? When I came on, Viet Nam guys were the rookies, WWII and Korea vets were running the place. Just before I retired, I was chatting with a young cop who got called up to the 1st Persian Gulf War, (Desert Storm). Now he's the Chief! I'm feeing really old here!
